iPod adpater for HCHII w/ nav

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Hey guys,

So I just got a new iPod classic and I have an iPhone that I would really like to get wired into my new HCH. Right now it is plugged in via the AUX input but I had to do that in the past with my other vehicle and know that a real iPod connection is btter (auto pauses the music, charges, sound quality, etc). I asked my dealer when I bought the car but he didnt know of anything off hand… With the popularity of iPods I figured there must be something.

I stumbled across this one on eBay but the auction has already closed and I didnt get it. You can still see it at http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll…MEWA:IT&ih=023… It looks to be exactly what I want except I dont know if it lets you control the iPod on the nav screen. That would be my dream come true!

Does anyone know anything about a straight iPod connector going into the nav/aux? Any ideas about what the item in the auction above does or have any exprirnce with it?

Thanks!

Upside down loans: Hummmmm

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll…ON03/804300309

Quote:

. . .
America’s love affair with easy credit and cheap gasoline has hit a dead end.
. . .
More than a quarter of borrowers now have auto loans that are upside down — the vehicle is worth less than the loan balance. In March, 32 percent of consumers buying a Hummer had a loan on their trade-in that was upside down, according to edmunds.com. At Land Rover, 22 percent of trade-ins were worth less than the original loan, up from 16 percent a year ago.

Like stock prices and home values, sales of luxury cars couldn’t climb forever. New car demand has slumped 8 percent this year, with some luxury brands suffering deeper declines Acura is down 14 percent; Bentley, down 21 percent; BMW, off 13 percent; Land Rover, down 14 percent; and Jaguar, dipping 18 percent.
. . .

I take no joy in this but it was inevitable.

OEM Nav/iPod/XM - May Have a Mess On My Hands

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Here’s my situation. I recently purchased a 2008 TCH with a VERY basic stereo systme (non-JBL which means no amplifier under the seat and I guess an inferior speaker system - although it sounds fine to me). It’s a company car and my boss now wants me to install a nav system with XM and possibly iPod intergration.

Can anyone recommend a system that will work with this situation. I’ve seen the Valor head unit and the OEM TY-6100N uhead units all over the internet, but can’t seem to find out if they work with my specific situation (6 speakers, non-JBL amplifier, etc.).

Thanks…

Question about battery pack depletion on steep inclines.

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I have a 2005 HCH MT with 73000 miles on it. There are at least two hills that I have to go up daily from a stop at the bottom, one with a 26% incline over .3 mile & the other at 35% incline over .1 mile and if I want to keep moving forward on the first I have to be using no more than 3 gear and deplete over 50% of the pack and on the second wind up going up in 2nd gear and deplete 75% of the pack. I try my best to feather back to stop using the assist but if I want to keep moving forward and not block traffic the assist is being used heavily.

I recently had the O2 sensors replaced after a check engine light and that did help some on mpg and the hills. The depletion use to be worse, like nearly 100% on the steepest grade. The pack does recharge back at a fairly decent pace but I am worried about it. It just seems like I am losing too much power both from the ICE and battery pack while traversing these hills.

I realize its only a 1.3 liter engine but I use to have a 1.1 liter engine that made it up these hills easier, but of course I wasn’t monitoring a IMA on the way up. Can any of you mechanical and/or Honda knowledgeable people tell me if this is normal or should I be going after my dealership for help before my 100k extended warranty gets any older? Or will they just look at me like I am crazy.

Camry hybrid: Toyota bucks the trend again

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Outselling all other hybrids combined, minus the Prius

I have to laugh a bit. Since the launch of the Toyota Camry hybrid, I’ve been claiming that consumers will buy hybrid vehicles based off conventional models - it’s not just about unique-looking hybrids. It’s about value, and the Camry hybrid has been proving this since its launch.

Now that the Camry hybrid is outselling the V6 conventional Camry, others are also starting to take notice.

Still, Toyota sold almost 55,000 Camry hybrids last year. This year it might be 60,000. So, it’s not as if the Camry hybrid is just starting to sell. More interesting, if the Camry hybrid had qualified for the full hybrid tax credit for as long as the Prius hybrid, I′ll bet Camry hybrid sales would have been, and would be, much higher. Nonetheless, once again, Toyota is bucking the hybrid trend and proving that smart hybrids with conventional counterparts can sell.

Economists SLAM gas tax holiday

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Too bad he drives an SUV

“Unless the goal is to temporarily boost profits for petroleum refineries and foreign producers, the proposal makes no sense,” stated Len Burman, director of the Tax Policy Center, regarding the gas tax holiday proposed by John McCain and supported by Hillary Clinton.

When it comes to foreign oil dependency, I’m giving all three candidates a vote of no confidence. Has Ron Paul gone Independent yet? I have to vote for somebody.
