AutoblogGreen has had our share of stories on Aptera and the company’s upcoming 300 mph space-like vehicle. But we understand that more information is just a click away for everyone, and so we thought you’d like to know about an interview Gizmag posted with the Aptera Co-Founder & CEO, Steve Fambro (AutoblogGreen spoke with Fambro in October). ABG reader Sayyad pointed this out for us, and says it “is worth the read, and makes a lot more sense than Aptera’s website.” He’s not kidding about the website. The last time I went to Aptera’s site, I about poked my eyes out.
Anyway, there’s a lot of interesting stuff in the interview. I like the way Fambro explains why he got excited to build his own high-mpg car company in the first place: it was when he saw SpaceShipOne.
I was amazed that twenty people in three years could develop a spacecraft, the aircraft to carry it up at altitude, test it and put it on the edge of space. If twenty people can do that then surely three or four people can build this car and take it to some form of completion ready for manufacture.
There’s more at Gizmag.

Even Mexican President Felipe Calderon is excited about the Saturn Vue hybrid. Today, Calderon announced the start of production of the vehicle in Mexico, Automotive News reports. The plant is in Ramos Arizpe and has an annual capacity of 6,500 hybrid Vues. GM employees have been making standard Vues there since July. These SUVs will be exported north to the US and Canada. GM is still undecided on whether to offer the Vue Green Line in the country where it is produced. Read more about the 2008 Vue hybrid at the link below.

I am wondering how long they last, and how to replace them.
I don’t see any obvious way to open the thing up to change the battery. And I don’t want to take a screwdriver to it and just start prying around.

Sanyo knows a thing or two about making batteries for vehicles. The company’s batteries are in the 2008 Ford Escape hybrid and the Honda Accord hybrid, for example. The Asia Pulse reports this week that the company announced that it will spend over three billion dollars over the next three years on new rechargeable battery technology (as well as solar cells and other electronic parts). The money the company will spend in the next three years is 40 percent more than similar investments in the preceding three years.
The billions will be spent on 1,000 engineers and to reach Sanyo’s goal of mass producing “lithium ion batteries for hybrid vehicles by fiscal 2009 or fiscal 2010,” the Asia Pulse writes (sorry, the article is behind a Lexis-Nexis wall and can’t be linked to).

2007 10Best List:

- Chevrolet Corvette
- Chrysler 300C
- Honda Accord
- Honda Fit
- Infiniti G35 Sedan
- Mazda MX-5 Miata
- Mazda Mazdaspeed3
- Porsche Boxster / Cayman
- Volkswagen GTI
GM is on a comeback and they are doing it in style. It seems our Honda Civic is not the darling we all think it is. The Honda Accord and the Honda Fit both made the list. This proves that people don’t just want high power motors, but motors that are friendly to the environment without the use of dangerous LiOn or NiMH or other battery technologies….
FYI, the following are gas sipping engines; Honda Fit, Mazda MX-5, Mazda Mazdaspeeϫ, Volkswagen, Chevy Malibu (in 4 Cyl) and Chevy Corvette (It has a V8 that uses activate cylinder deactivation both on HWY and City)
Enjoy!

I noticed that MMH gallery is pretty weak compared to many other hybrid models.
Now get out there and post those pics!
